Hello College Curlys, It’s been a while. Recently I have been going through a bit of a writers block, and while I know this is a website about natural hair, I thought why not switch it up and write about something I love even more than hair…food. So here goes, I hope you all enjoy this food review of a popular local restaurant here in St.Louis.

Before deciding where to eat, as many people do, I looked up “food near me” on the google maps app and started sifting through the multiple options available to me upon a 5 mile radius. It didn’t take too long before I clicked on the interesting name of a restaurant that I was pretty sure a friend of a friend had mentioned to me once. Their website was enticing, opening with the phrase,“We think there’s something special about fresh food. That’s why we make everything from scratch here at Sauce on the Side. Our handmade calzones. Our salad dressings. Even our desserts. It’s all made right here.

This phrase spoke to me, but their yelp review spoke even louder. “ Sauce on the Side,” with a four and a half star review and 323 photos I was sold. The restaurant was small and quaint, with low lighting and black seats and napkins. Once being seated, the waitress was more than helpful when I asked her about a menu option I had seen online but couldn’t find on the menu. She expressed to me that the menu rotates, funneling in different items each month. With that being said, the item I wanted was unavailable but she recommended something similar, and I am so glad she did. 

When I bit into the “Carmen” calzone, I actually felt like I had been whisked off to Italy. Prosciutto, Capicola, Spinach, Parmesan, Fontina, music to my ears. And to top it all off, Garlic Butter, calzones galore. The crust of the calzone was golden brown and shaped in that signature half-moon shape and paired perfectly with my side salad. Honestly, there’s nothing more to say. I could not complain about a single thing even if I wanted to.

I was seated immediately, my food was brought to me in a timely manner, my waitress was attentive and the overall service was great. 

10 out of 10 would recommend to a friend.
